Middle of the World - Pululahua - Quito Colonial – Teleferico- Otavalo – Mindo – Cotopaxi Volcano


Day 1:

Tour Middle of the World - Pululahua - Quito Colonial - Teleferico

Middle of the World, Quito

We will start our day with a trip to the Equator. This includes a visit of the main monument in which the Ethnographic Museum is located, where you will learn about the ancient cultures of Ecuador.

We will do a short tour of the Middle of the World City, which offers an impressive reproduction of the colonial part of Quito.

Also we will visit the Museum Intiñan, where they develop several scientific experiments to prove that it is the middle of the world.

We will continue our tour and head to the viewpoint Pululahua, an extinct volcano, which has the only inhabited crater in the world and that offers a fantastic landscape full of nature.

Afterwards we will tour through historic center of Quito, known for its most impressive churches and museums, squares and colonial houses.The old town is the best preserved in Latin America, according to UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1978.

Finally we arrive at the slopes of Pichincha volcano in Cruz Loma. Here the cable car of Quito, Teleferico, can be found, that will take us all the way up to the top of Pichincha. We will climb into a cabin that takes us up in about 12 minutes. During, we will enjoy the best view of the city and the surrounding mountains. An experience that you will never forget!

In the late afternoon we are returning to our hotel to rest and prepare for another great day.

Day 2:

Tour Otavalo

Cuicocha Lake, Otavalo

On our second day of travel , our agent will pick you up very early to take the Panamericana Norte to get to our first stop, the small village of Calderon, known for being a manufacturer of marzipan figures in different designs, shapes and colors.

Continuing our way and before reaching Otavalo, visit the Mirador de San Pablo, from this location will appreciate the unique landscape of the lake that sits at the foot of Imbabura volcano.

Then continue until you reach the Otavalo indigenous market or commonly known as the Plaza de Ponchos, shown here the craftsmanship of its inhabitants, who make carpets, wool coats , embroidered blouses, bags and the most varied handicrafts undoubtedly this is the perfect time to shop .

Another of our destinations is Cotacachi, known for making leather goods, visit several shops in the center of town where you can buy bags and clothes with fine finishes.

Finally visit the Cuicocha Lake, a beautiful place with unique scenery , great for getting the best photographs, here if you want you can take a boat ride or just take a walk around the place.

After a wonderful day, return to the city of Quito.

Day 3:

Tour Mindo

Waterfall Mindo Nambillo

We will leave at 08:00, heading towards Mindo forest Reserve, by continuing along the path Calacali - Los Bancos, and meanwhile enjoying a various landscapes. After more or less 2 hours, we arrive at our destination.

The first stop is at the crossing of Tarabita, located at 530 meters high. We will pass through the cloud forest until we reach the entrance and the path that leads us to the impressive waterfall Mindo Nambillo. Here we’ll begin our journey of about an hour. During this hike we can observe a variety of bird life and admire several small waterfalls to finally reach the main waterfall. At the Mindo Nambillo we can jump in the water, freshen up and be blown away by the beauty of this stunning waterfall.

Then we will head to the Butterfly farm that gives us the opportunity to learn about the process of reproduction, life and metamorphosis of butterflies. The complex process, of turning from an egg into a caterpillar and of becoming a magical colorful butterfly, will be explained. Of course, you will also get the chance to admire numerous butterflies from up-close.

We will end the day with some action, for those who would like to, as Mindo offers some adventurous sports for the adrenaline seekers, such as: canopy and tubing.

Late in the afternoon and after an amazing day we will return to the city of Quito.

Day 4:

Tour Cotopaxi Volcano

Early in the morning our guide will pick us up and so begins an incredible adventure.

We take the Panamerican road and after a journey of about an hour and a half, we will reach the Cotopaxi National Park. Our first visit will be the museum where we will learn some history of Cotopaxi Volcano and the flora and fauna of the place.

Our next visit will be to the lagoon Limpiopungo , which is one of the most photographed places in the Park. This lake is located in a wide valley that offers a magnificent view of the Cotopaxi, Rumiñahui and Sincholagua volcanos.

To continue with our journey, we will get back into our vehicle and drive onwards to an higher point of the volcano. During this climb you will be amazed about the changing ecosystems due to the different heights. From the point where we will leave the car, it’s about a 40-minutes’ walk to reach the highest base. Here we can have some hot drinks and enjoy a spectacular and magical view that you will never forget!

After an unforgettable experience, we will return to Quito.
